For a short weekend trip, you can plan to visit ancient caves in India. In Maharashtra, there are many caves you can explore. This November, you can plan this itinerary with family or friends. You can have an exciting tour by getting curious information, the history and witnessing the architectural aspects of these caves, which were mostly built in the 5th to 6th century. In the caves, there are depictions of Hindu gods, presented with stories on the rock-cut sculptures and panels.

To plan a trip, you must take a tour guide, your personal belongings and carry a 2-liter water bottle, compulsory despite the weather. The tour can last for 2–3 hours as you explore the fascinating engineering miracle.

Elephanta Caves: To go here, we need to take a ferry from Mumbai. You can join from Pune, Nashik. You can witness Trimurti Sadashiva and Nataraja sculptures here.

Ajanta and Ellora Caves: Ajanta is famous for its exquisite Buddhist mural paintings whereas Ellora is famous for the Kailasa Temple. It has Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain rock-cut temples too.

Badami Caves: In Hampi, there are Badami caves you can visit. It is carved with red standstone. It is the best example of Chalukya architecture. You can go to Hampi by road or come here via Bangalore.

Kuda Caves: Kuda caves are located in a small village named Kuda. The village is on the eastern side of the north-shore of Murud-Janjira. It’s in Raigad district of Maharshtra.

Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves: These caves are interesting to visit. They are partly natural and partly artifical caves. It is the best example of Jain rock-cut shelters.
