Chennai: 7 Sites Raided by ED Linked to Deaths Due to Cough Syrup

On Monday, the ED investigated seven locations in Chennai linked to the Coldrif cough syrup case, which had earlier resulted in the deaths of several children.
The premises being searched by the central probe agency reportedly include the residences of senior officials from the Tamil Nadu Drug Control Office.
The raids were carried out under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and are connected to Sresan Pharma, the cough syrup manufacturing company that is now banned in several states across the country.

Most of the deaths occurred in the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, with some cases also reported in Rajasthan. A total of 22 children have died due to the cough syrup, most of whom were under the age of five.
On 9th October, G. Ranganathan, owner of Sresan Pharmaceuticals, was taken into custody by the Madhya Pradesh Police.
