On March 23, the makers of Moana unveiled the much-awaited trailer of Disney’s live-action remake. Starring Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Demigod Maui, the lead actors have set the screen ablaze.

For the context, the movie is a real-life adaptation of the 2016 hit animation headlined by Catherine Lagaʻaia, the daughter of New Zealand-Australian actor Jay Laga’aia, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who voiced the original. After a decade, Walt Disney Studios announced the adaptation of the 10-year-old animated drama. For the unversed, the sequel to the animated flick was also released in theatres in November 2024.

Moana Trailer Revealed: What to Expect from the Live-Action Version of the Animated Film?

Disney revealed the live-action version of Moana starring newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia as the wayfinder Moana and Dwayne Johnson, who reprises his role as the trickster demigod Maui from the animated film.

Fans of the original animated film resonated with the 2-minute-22-second glimpse. The trailer shows Moana’s interactions with Maui, the crab who’s obsessed with shiny objects, the lava, and fire creature Te Kā. Not just that, familiar songs, including I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors) are also a part of the film. Meanwhile, Johnson has a full head of flowing locks, befitting his character.

Apart from the leads, the star cast includes John Tui as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Frankie Adams as Moana’s mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as Moana’s Gramma Tala. All in all, Disney stated that the film is a reimagination of the Oscar-nominated movie.
