On February 19, 2026, a wave of mourning shook the industry after the announcement of Eric Dane’s sad demise. According to the official statement released by the actor’s family, he passed away at the age of 53. In 2025, the Grey Anatomy and Euphoria star opened up about his diagnosis with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). The fatal disease is widely known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. 

Dane became a household name after he appeared as Dr. Mark Sloan, aka McSteamy, in 2006’s Grey’s Anatomy, a series that ran until 2012. His major contributions to TV include Countdown, The Last Ship, The Fixer, Charmed, Brilliant Minds, and Gideon’s Crossing. In 2019, he starred in Euphoria as Cal Jacobs. Reportedly, he will appear in the show’s third season, due for release in 2026. Though the celebrated actor left for heavenly abode, his legacy will be long-lived.

This Thursday afternoon, Eric Dane’s family released an official statement, announcing the passing away of the brilliant actor. The statement read, “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world. The actor’s perspective on health and research seemingly changed during the diagnosis. The statement further read, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. 

Dane’s demise sparked a wave of mourning across the entertainment industry. UndoubtedlyHis absence will truly be felt. The statement added, “He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”

In 2025, the actor opened up about his fatal disease, ALS. It is a nervous-system disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord and causes loss of muscle control. The fatal disease worsens over time.
