Batwara 1947 First Look OUT: Aamir Khan’s Partition Drama Ft Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta Officially Re-titled

On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Aamir Khan Productions took to their social media timelines to officially unveil the first poster of Lahore 1947, which is now re-titled Batwara 1947. Starring Sunny Deol, alongside Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol, the newly released motion poster has piqued curiosity among fans and cinephiles. 

Slated to hit the theatres on August 14, 2026, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial will be locking horns with Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2, while taking full advantage of the Independence Day weekend. After months of speculation and anticipation, the makers offered a sneak peek of the partition-era drama, confirming the film’s theatrical release date. Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 First Look Unveiled: Here’s What to Expect!

Earlier titled Lahore 1947, Batwara 1947 marks Sunny  Deol’s reunion with director Rajkumar Santoshi after years. Additionally, the project also marks Preity Zinta’s major comeback opposite Deol after 2001’s Farz, 2003’s The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, and lastly, 2018’s Bhaiji Superhit.

The motion poster features Sunny Deol amidst the partition war, offering a glimpse of his struggle to protect his family. He is spotted standing with a torch before Preity Zinta and their two children, who appear frightened due to the riots. In a nutshell, the teaser offers a fresh take on those who went through the 1947 partition emotionally, mentally, and physically.

For the unversed, Batwara 1947, originally named Lahore 1947, was announced in October 2024, marking the first-ever collaboration of Zinta and Deol. What makes it a masterpiece is the fact that the period drama comprises A.R. Rahman’s music with lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar and dialogues by Santoshi and Asghar Wajahat.
