Punjab DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar was caught red-handed taking a bribe from a scrap dealer in Mohali and was subsequently arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CBI recovered cash worth around Rs 5 crore, gold weighing 1.5 kg, several luxury cars, and other assets from DIG Bhullar. Bhullar had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the scrap dealer to settle a case against him and assured that no police action would be taken if the payment was made.

A middleman named Kirshanu, linked to the DIG, was also arrested in connection with the bribery case. The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations connected to Bhullar in Punjab and Chandigarh, recovering documents related to over 15 properties, keys to two luxury cars (Mercedes and Audi), 22 luxury watches, several locker keys, 40 litres of imported liquor, and firearms.

Rs 21 lakh in cash was recovered from the middleman in the case. While the search and investigation continue, the accused are scheduled to be produced before the designated court today.

According to a report by India Today TV, citing a written complaint by Akash Batta of Mandi Gobindgarh, Bhullar, through Kirshanu, allegedly demanded bribes and monthly payments referred to as ‘sewa-paani’ and threatened false criminal cases if the payments were not made.
