2,000 Year Old Tamil Inscriptions Found in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt
A 2000 year old Tamil inscription has been found in Egypt, according to the reports. Around 2,000 years ago, a Tamil trader left behind a remarkable trace of his voyage across Egypt.
The Times of India reports that he repeatedly carved his name inside the well-known Valley of the Kings, where the pharaohs were laid to rest in tombs dating back to 1600 BC.
Researchers have found Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions that are 2,000 years old inside the heavily guarded royal tombs of Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, changing the maritime history of ancient India.
Swiss scientist Professor Ingo Strauch presented the results on the first day of the four day International Conference on Tamil Epigraphy, which was held here on February 11. The findings support the notion that ancient Tamil merchants traveled far into the Egyptian interior for tourism and exploration, according to PTI.
In addition to the tomb of Ramesses VI, Professor Strauch of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and Professor Charlotte Schmid of the French School of Asian Studies in Paris recorded around 30 inscriptions in Tamil-Brahmi and Prakrit in six rock cut tombs. The name ‘Cikai Korran’, which is found in eight different places, is the most notable finding, PTI further adds.
