We all have busy work schedules, but that doesn’t mean eating your meal late. Late night eating can have a bad effect on your health. This is a very wrong practice as it can affect mental and physical health.

Late night eating might cause weight gain, an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease and poor sleep due to metabolic slowing, fat storage and digestive problems such as acid reflux.

Particularly with foods high in sugar, fat or salt, it interferes with the body’s internal clock, which regulates hormones and blood sugar.

Healthier options include eating smaller, well balanced meals earlier in the day and avoiding caffeine, alcohol and large meals close to bedtime, which can promote sleep and general well being.

What are the disadvantages?

Eating later might encourage fat storage since your metabolism slows down at night, resulting in less calorie burning. After meals, lying down might cause indigestion and acid reflux, which might interfere with sleep.

Alcohol and caffeine interfere with sleep quality, while high fat or sugar foods cause energy highs and lows. Late eating can change cortisol and leptin levels, leading to weight gain and stress.

Effect on Mental health

Eating late at night has a number of harmful effects on mental health, such as a higher risk of depression, anxiety and sleeplessness. The main cause of this is hormonal imbalances and disruption of the body’s natural circadian rhythm.
