Traditionally, water was stored in a metal pot, preferably copper, brass, or any alloy of copper. At night, people used to wash the copper vessel with tamarind and turmeric. Additionally, they used to smear sacred ash on it and then fill it with water. With a flower on top of it, they lit a lamp next to it and went to bed. The next morning, they used to drink that water.
