Techie Working as a Rapido Driver to Pay Credit Card Bills Reveals Gig Worker Struggles
A techie who shifted to gig work, says that he is facing struggle while working as a Rapido driver. After a traumatic interaction with a passenger, a software engineer who registered as a bike taxi driver to pay off his credit card debt received a reality check. He said in a Reddit post that he racked up credit card bills buying necessities after relocating to a new rental apartment.
He chose to use his free weekends and passion for motorcycling to take up rides on platforms such as Rapido and Uber in order to deal with the financial load. Although his first experiences were pleasant, a recent pickup brought him back to reality. He stated that a consumer came with a friend who was really inebriated and insistently requested that the journey be terminated.

The man struck the driver on his helmet after he courteously declined. According to the techie, he could quit right away because he already had work, but he expressed worries about the full time drivers who frequently encounter the same violent passengers.
“It made me realize how invisible gig workers are until we become one ourselves. We often complain when our cab is five minutes late or when a rider asks us to cancel. But we rarely think about what these people deal with every single day,” he wrote.
