CWG 2026: Gulveer Singh Wins Historic Silver in Men’s 10,000m at Glasgow

On Tuesday, Gulveer Singh, an Asian Games bronze winner, made history by becoming the first Indian to place in the top three in the men’s 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games, earning a silver medal.

Gulveer, who competed at the Scotstoun Stadium in Scotland under difficult conditions that included a heavy downpour and a rain soaked track, maintained his position in the front group for the whole race before concluding with stunning final laps.

Gulveer, competing in Glasgow in the rain, maintained his patience throughout the majority of the race, remaining with the leading group without exerting excessive energy. The bell for the last lap found the Indian in third place, but he unleashed a devastating finishing surge to pass one rival and earn a historic silver medal. The national record holder, who has emerged as India’s best long distance runner in recent years, achieved yet another milestone with this performance.

After weightlifter Harjinder Kaur achieved a career-best performance in the women’s 69kg category, Gulveer’s medal marked India’s second silver of the day. With Gulveer’s historic podium finish, India’s medal tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games increased to 12 medals, including two gold, seven silver and three bronze.
