Home Minister Amit Shah to Inaugurate India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai

India is opening a major window on its maritime ambitions this week, as Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurates India Maritime Week 2025 (IMW 2025) in Mumbai on Monday. 

Organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in partnership with the Indian Ports Association, the five-day event (October 27–31) will convene government ministers, industry leaders, foreign delegations and investors from across the world to explore how India can accelerate its standing in global maritime trade, ship-building, logistics and the so-called “blue economy”. 

At the inauguration, Mr. Shah said India aims to become one of the top five ship-building nations, and will leverage a new investment roadmap that he described as centring on “cargo handling, modern ports and global linkages”. 

Mumbai  already the country’s chief maritime gateway will host the event at the NESCO exhibition grounds in Goregaon, offering a platform to showcase technological innovation in shipping, port infrastructure and sustainability practices. 

Key coastal state chief ministers from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Odisha and senior central ministers are slated to attend, signalling the political importance attached to the maritime push. 

India Maritime Week (IMW) is designed to highlight India’s intent to strengthen its maritime infrastructure and integrate more deeply into global trade networks. Among the themes to be explored are sustainable growth, technological innovation and maritime-logistics connectivity.
