IT Department Enables Online Filing of ITR-1 and ITR-4 for AY 2026-27
The income tax department has enabled the online filing for the ITR-1 and ITR-4 for the assessment year 2026-27. In a post on X, the IT department stated that the e-Filing portal now allows taxpayers to utilize the Excel tool and file online for ITR-1 and ITR-4 for AY 2026-27.
The deadline for individual taxpayers to submit tax returns under ITR-1 is July 31, while the deadline for non-audit taxpayers to submit tax returns under ITR-4 is August 31.
On March 30, these forms for submitting ITRs for income made during the 2025-26 fiscal year were announced. Assessees may now begin submitting tax returns thanks to the introduction of online filing and an Excel utility.

ITR Form 1 (Sahaj) and ITR Form 4 (Sugam) are simpler forms intended for a significant portion of small and medium taxpayers. A resident individual may file a Sahaj if their annual income is less than Rs. 50 lakh and their income comes from salary, one house property, other sources (interest) and agricultural income of less than Rs. 5,000 annually. Additionally, it allows for the reporting of annual long-term capital gains (LTCG) of Rs 1.25 lakh.
