The Odyssey Box Office Collection Day 1: Christopher Nolan’s Action Fantasy Rakes Over Rs 20 Cr in India
The Odyssey has set the box office on fire. Helmed by renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan, the epic fantasy drama has been hitting milestones since its release. Starring Matt Damon and Tom Holland in the lead roles, the film has registered a record-breaking opening. It opened to blockbuster numbers worldwide on July 17, minting Rs 19.22 crore in India and $17.6 million in US previews alone. On the first day, the film’s gross collections stood at Rs 20.76 crore.
Based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey was one of the most anticipated films of the year, which was released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It recorded its strongest response in the original English version. Here’s a closer look at its box office numbers.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Odyssey collected a net of Rs 16.10 crore by running across 8,413 shows. This ranks as the highest opening day for a non-franchise Hollywood film in India, surpassing Rs 17.77 crore of 2022’s Oppenheimer. Christopher Nolan has been a long champion of IMAX, with Oppenheimer holding the record for the highest lifetime collections in the format.
Talking about the occupancy rate, the film recorded an overall 48.7 percent occupancy in theatres on its opening day. The English-language release contributed an estimated Rs 13.75 crore nett, whereas the Hindi version earned around Rs 1.90 crore, followed by the Telugu version with approximately Rs 1.10 crore.
As of Day 2, 5 PM IST, The Odyssey has collected a net of Rs 10.87 crore, bringing its total India gross collections to Rs 32.05 crore.
