Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey IMAX Ticket Prices Soar Over Rs 3000 in India, Here’s WHY!
It is no news that Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has captivated a global audience. Whether it is the film’s storyline, plot, narrative, theme, or ensemble cast, the film has sparked buzz online for all the right reasons. With teasers, trailers, and the cast announcement, every update about the film has piqued the interest of fans and cinephiles. Renowned and well-acclaimed filmmaker’s craft is nothing short of a masterpiece, and hence, expectations are high; so are the ticket prices.
Ahead of its July 17 release, the film has sparked a ticket frenzy, with prices surpassing Rs 3100 in Mumbai and Rs 2500 in Delhi-NCR. Let us tell you that The Odyssey has been shot entirely with IMAX 70mm film cameras, and hence, it deserves a cinematic spectacle. Here’s what’s currently buzzing.
The Odyssey IMAX Ticket Prices Surpass Rs 3000 in Mumbai and Rs 2000 in New Delhi
Honestly, the ticket rates for an IMAX ticket, particularly in the opening weekend, are understandable. The question is whether the audience prefers buying a movie ticket that might burn a hole in their pocket. Diehard cinephiles, with due respect to the renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan, might seize the tickets given the fact that the film deserves what it demands.
As spotted on BookMyShow, IMAX screens across cities like Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and New Delhi are fast filling for the opening weekend, with Rs 3300 for recliner seats, particularly at PVR ICON: Palladium in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Tickets are selling between Rs 900 and Rs 2,000 at other venues across Mumbai, with recliner seats being charged between Rs 1,300 and Rs 1,800.
On the other hand, ticket prices at PVR IMAX with Laser, Priya in Delhi for the 4:45 pm IMAX show are a whopping Rs 2,500 per person for recliners. Whereas evening and night shows are selling for Rs 2,100 for recliners.
It is also important to note that Nolan has crafted The Odyssey in IMAX 1570, the highest-resolution film format that exists to date. Reportedly, the name derives from 15 perforations on each frame, combined with 70 mm, the width of the film stock. Most cinemas across the world have long embraced digital prints. Given that it’s an old technology, there are only 41 screens present now, capable of projecting the IMAX 1570 format.
For years, the filmmaker has championed the specific resolution. Earlier, there were only 30 screens. Three years ago, the number escalated to 41 screens for the director’s last blockbuster period thriller epic, Oppenheimer, released in July 2023. The handling of the IMAX 1570 projector is expensive and highly cumbersome. Each film reel weighs 240 kg and runs for 17 km. Hence, the ticket prices of The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, have sky-rocketed.
