Vipul Shah’s The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond sparked significant controversy since the release of its trailer. After triumphing over the hurdles and a ban imposed by the Kerala High Court, the Indian Hindi-language drama collected a total gross of Rs 12.36 crore and a total net of Rs 10.41 crore, running across 13,878 shows. For the unversed, the film acquired a green signal from the Kerala High Court on the evening of February 27, the day of its release.

Activists of the Democratic Youth Federation of India alleged that the film shows the state in a negative light and protested against it. There were also reports of shows being cancelled in some theatres in Kochi, Kozhikode, and Kottayam. Though the ban hampered its success on the first day, its collection jumped significantly over the weekend. Here’s a closer look at its box office numbers.
