Relocating to a new city is not easy. We have to understand every financial reality too. Currently, a video is going viral where a woman shares six things while relocating to a big city. She expressed that it would have been better if she had known this before.

A founder based in Mumbai has shared a candid view on what it is like to live in the city, from selecting a place to live based on commute time to handling deposits, brokerage and the daily cost of living. Jahnvi Shah, who has lived in Mumbai for about three years, posted a video on Instagram listing the things she would have wanted someone to tell her before she relocated there.

Six Things Are:

She first suggested giving location precedence over the visual appeal of a house. She said that, first do not consider how attractive a home is while selecting one; instead, base your decision on your workplace because 8 kilometers in Mumbai may take either 20 minutes or your entire night.

She also advised those relocating to the city to plan for costs in addition to rent. Secondly, when someone informs you about the rent, mentally add more funds. Agreement, deposit, brokerage, moving, setup. Before you have had your first peaceful night in your home, you will be spending money, she added.

Living in Mumbai, according to her, alters people’s perceptions of distance. Thirdly, you will gradually begin to measure everything in terms of commute time. Rather than, ”Where do I live?” it will be more like, “How much time does it take to reach Bandra?” She also suggested that newcomers learn to utilize public transportation rather than solely depending on cabs. Fourth, become acquainted with public transportation. This is extremely significant. You can keep saying, “I will just take a taxi.” I am even like that. Your bank account will eventually tell you that you do not have to, she said.

Fifth, Mumbai will teach you how little room a person genuinely needs. You’ll think, “Wait, there’s even a balcony!” if you are like, “That’s a small house in another city.” It is a lavish lifestyle!” she added further.

She advised against overspending in an effort to emulate the lavish Mumbai lifestyle so often portrayed online. “Don’t waste all your money trying to imitate the Instagram-perfect Mumbai lifestyle, and here’s some significant advice. You don’t have to brunch every Sunday, do you? Coffee, every day and plans every night. You don’t need that.
