Just a few days away from its release, a cloud of uncertainty has been hanging over Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan due to the film’s pending censor certificate. While the farewell film was ready to roar at the box office on January 9, 2026, the makers dropped an official statement announcing the postponement of the action drama due to unavoidable circumstances beyond their control.

With Thalapathy Vijay as the protagonist and Bobby Deol as the antagonist, the hype was so extensive that the audience demanded a national holiday following its release. However, fans and movie buffs need to wait for an indefinite time as the movie has been stuck in the judgments of the Madras High Court and the Central Board of Film Certification.

Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Faces Censor Delays: What You Need to Know!

Sharing the update on X, KVN Productions shared the unfortunate news with the audience before its scheduled theatrical debut on January 9. The unexpected delay crops up from the tense standoff over the film’s certification. On January 7, the Madras High Court reserved its order on the film’s release and instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to create a new committee to review the film.

After the movie failed to obtain its censor certificate, which was submitted over a month earlier, the producers approached the Madras High Court. On December 19, the board reportedly suggested a list of 27 cuts and muted dialogues. Since the certification is still pending, the India release has been pushed.

In the wake of the movie’s delay and screening cancellations, the theatres have confirmed that those who booked their tickets online will receive automatic refunds to their respective accounts, while those who purchased tickets at the ticket window can claim their money in person. Nonetheless, the delay affected bookings not only in India but also impacted the distributors in the UK, North America, Canada, and Malaysia. Fans now await the announcement of the new release date!
