It is no news that June 12 witnessed multiple releases at the box office. Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past locked horns with Diliji Dosanjh’s Main Wapas Aaunga, Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Patralekhaa’s Heer Sara, and Manoj Bajpayee’s Governor. Despite the tough competition, at the Indian box office, Haunted 3D opened unexpectedly well. The movie collected Rs 2.50 crore on the first day. If you include 3D charges, the film raked in approximately Rs. 2.75 crore nett.
What dropped jaws is the fact that the film performed extremely well in Delhi-UP, which garnered nearly a crore, more than double that of Mumbai. Moreover, Bihar, CPCI, and West Bengal were also among the outperformers. All in all, the sequel to the 2011’s Haunted 3D, has registered a promising star. Despite the box office clash, unlike big-budget action spectacles, Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past has benefited from strong word-of-mouth, franchise value, and audience curiosity.
According to film critic Taran Adarsh, “The film had to struggle for screens and shows initially, but as the day progressed and the audience response became evident, additional shows continued to be added. The business in Tier-2 and Tier-3 centres, in particular, has been very good… The opening day numbers, despite limited showcasing, once again prove that the audience’s verdict is the final verdict. Importantly, there were NO discounted tickets or BOGO offers in play, yet the film has successfully found its audience.” It is now interesting to know how the film performs over the first weekend.
