Starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in the key roles, “Haiwaan” hit the theatres on Sept 11, 2026. The crime-thriller opened to mixed reactions from early reviewers, with many praising the actors’ performances and a few criticising the dragged storyline and frame-to-frame recreation of the 2016 Malayalam film “Oppam.” On opening day, the film collected Rs 3 crore at the box office. “Haiwaan” has witnessed a very mediocre start at the box office. Directed by Priyadarshan, the thriller collected Rs 3 crore by running across 7,224 shows, registering just 11 percent occupancy. As of day 2, the film has minted Rs 40 lakhs with 2,463 shows and 9 percent occupancy. This brings the total gross collections to Rs 4.07 Cr so far. Reportedly, the film is mounted on a budget of Rs 130 crore.
The film has struggled to survive against tough competitors at the box office, including Pankaj Tripathi’s “Mirzapur: The Movie” and Shobinaw Satyaa’s “Hanuman Ansh.” Meanwhile, in the Southern market, Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya’s Epic hit theatres the same day as “Haiwaan.”
Haiwaan brings Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan back together on screen after 17 years, following their collaboration in “Tashan.” It revolves around Shyam (Saif Ali Khan), a blind caretaker who finds himself accused of murdering retired Judge Pradhan. As vengeful killer Parshuram (Akshay Kumar) goes after Pradhan’s daughter Nandini, Shyam escapes from the police and attempts to protect her. During their journey, however, Shyam discovers a shocking secret about Nandini that changes the course of the story.
