After Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi Held Over Censor Clearance
Similar to Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, which experienced an unexpected release postponement, the historical drama Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, also encounters CBFC roadblocks just one day before its theatrical release. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the movie is scheduled for premiere on January 10, 2026. However, neither the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) nor the film’s production team issued an official statement regarding the certification status.
According to Press Trust of India, the delays have raised concerns within the Tamil film industry about the functioning and censorship process. Mounted on a big budget, Parasakthi was expected to open a day after Jana Nayagan on January 10. Unfortunately, the makers of Jana Nayagan officially announced that the film has been postponed due to uncontrolled circumstances. As of Thursday evening, neither film had received clearance from the CBFC board.
Parasakthi Faces CBFC Roadblocks Ahead of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan
Starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, Parasakthi is set against the backdrop of 1965. Interesting, Parasakthi is Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film. The actor essays the role of a coal tosser who transforms into a revolutionary figure amidst the anti-Hindi agitations. Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, the film features Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, marking her Tamil debut. The trailer garnered over 50 million views on YouTube, piquing the audience’s interest. Produced by Dawn Pictures, it explores the themes of social realities and resistance.
Unfortunately, the uncertainty over certification has impacted ticket bookings across several theatres. The CBFC has reportedly suggested over 20 cuts to Parasakthi. According to reports, the CBFC’s authorities objected and recommended the removal or modification of scenes related to anti-Hindi agitations in the film. Directed Kongara opposed the changes, stating they would tamper with the film’s narrative. Considering the scenario, the Tamil box office may remain idle on the festive occasion of Pongal.
