IIT Madras launches Centre in California, Launchpad for Indian Deep-tech Startups

IIT Madras has announced the launch of a centre in California as a launchpad for Indian deep-tech startups, according to reports.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Global Research Foundation has shared an announcement about starting its first centre in the United States, which helps spread India’s cutting-edge tech innovation into worldwide networks. The center is located in Menlo Park, California. The announcement was made at the SelectUSA Investment Summit at National Harbor in Maryland on Tuesday. The center was formally launched on April 24.

The Global Research Foundation of the IIT Madras intends to enhance cooperation in research with universities and colleges in the United States. This site will serve as a supportive base for IIT and international startups, offering workshops and courses in the US with an investment of 4.5 million USD.

“The center in Menlo Park, made possible by our collaboration with CA Startups, serves as an important base for IITM Global’s activities in the United States,” Thirumalai Madhavnarayan, who is the CEO of the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, told to PTI. A 4.5 million USD greenfield investment from IITM Global is included in the project as part of a larger 7.5 million USD investment campaign.

United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor mentioned on Wednesday a remarkable increase in economic collaboration between the two countries, pointing out that Indian businesses are investing billions of dollars into the US economy under President Donald Trump’s administration. He stated that this flow of investment marks an important turning point for the economic relationship between the two countries, covering essential sectors from healthcare to advanced technology, reported by ANI.
