In the alleged murder of a farmer and the assault on his daughters in a village under the Fatehgarh Police Station area, BJP leader Mahendra Nagar and his followers have been booked.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the farmer, Ram Swaroop Dhakad, was heading towards his field with his wife. As per the complaint filed, BJP leader Mahendra Nagar and his aides surrounded Dhakad on his way, beat him with sticks and iron rods, and in a fit of rage, ran a Thar jeep over him.
The farmer’s family claimed that Nagar and his associates had been threatening the small farmer to sell his land. When Dhakad refused to sell, they allegedly attacked him.
The farmer’s daughter rushed to the spot after hearing her parents’ cries and was also allegedly assaulted. She stated, “I went to save my father. They sat on top of me, assaulted me, and tore my clothes. They also shot at me. My parents were going to the farm when the accused came out and started attacking them. Upon hearing the noise, we went to save them. When my mother tried to intervene, they ran their car over my father.”
The victim’s brother, Rajkumar, added, “They tore the clothes of both the girls, and around 20 people were firing in the air, so we got scared. The assault continued for about an hour. The accused then ran a tractor over him and later a car.”
An FIR has been registered against Mahendra Nagar, three women from his family, and 14 others under murder and other relevant sections of the IPC.
Fatehgarh Station House Officer Jayanarayan Sharma said, “Statements from the victim’s family have been recorded, and raids are underway to arrest the accused.”
