Income Tax Department Asks to Ignore Erroneous Emails Regarding ‘Significant Transactions’
Following the discovery that some emails sent under its Advance Tax e-Campaign for Assessment Year 2026-27 included inaccurate data about ‘significant transactions’, the Income Tax Department urged taxpayers on Saturday to disregard particular emails. The Income Tax department said the emails were merely intended to serve as helpful reminders to taxpayers to examine their financial data.
The department stated in a statement published on X (Twitter) that it had gotten reports from taxpayers about inaccuracies in the communications and is collaborating with its service provider to fix the problem.
“Emails with erroneous information on ‘important transactions’ have been sent to some taxpayers. The department apologizes for any inconvenience caused,” it stated.

Taxpayers were recommended to use the income tax e-filing website’s Compliance Portal’s e-Campaign section to confirm their transaction information. “Taxpayers are kindly requested to ignore the earlier email communication related to the Advance Tax e-Campaign for AY 2026-27 in the interim,” the department stated, while expressing gratitude to taxpayers who pointed out the mistake.
