The government has imposed a windfall tax hike on diesel and ATF, an important update to be noted by the consumers. Diesel exports have been subject to a more than doubling of the export tax by the government, increasing it from Rs. 21.5 per liter to Rs. 55.5 per liter on Saturday, while also increasing the levy on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) from Rs. 29.5 per liter to Rs. 42 per liter.
In a notification, the finance ministry stated that the duty increases would take effect immediately. The war in West Asia prompted the imposition of obligations in order to improve the fuel’s availability throughout the nation, as per the PTI report.
Petrol, on the other hand, has been left alone, with its export duty remaining at zero, indicating that the country believes its domestic petrol supply is currently sufficient.
As worldwide energy costs remain unpredictable, the dramatic change demonstrates the government’s ongoing attempts to restrict the export of processed fuels, even at the expense of local availability, according to the reports.
According to sources, authorities are assessing tax frameworks in the wake of an increase in the windfall tax on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) to make sure that higher fuel prices do not lead to higher airfares.
