The eclipse will start over the Atlantic Ocean before making its way to land close to the Strait of Gibraltar. The Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Europe (Spain and Gibraltar) from Africa (Morocco and Ceuta), is a small strait that connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The route of totality will then go through Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and southern Spain before entering the Middle Eastern area. Brazil and other American nations won’t be able to see any of the event.

On August 2, 2027, a total solar eclipse will pass over portions of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, marking a significant astronomical event. This eclipse will produce the longest period of complete darkness this century, with the centerline experiencing up to six minutes and 23 seconds, according to experts. The Moon will begin to cover the Sun between 60 and 80 minutes prior to totality.

The total darkness will last from a few seconds to more than six minutes. The sun will progressively return over the course of the next hour’s partial phase. Closer to the event, local astronomy clubs will announce more accurate timing details.
