Just like YouTube’s 2025 Pop Culture Trends 2025, Google also unveiled its ‘Year in Search’ report. In its A to Z trend map, it showcased how Indians defined their curiosity and satisfied their hunger for knowledge. Starting right from the rising entertainment actors and creators to browsing about the viral AI tools, travel hotspots, memes, and major news events, they did it all! In a nutshell, the search activity of netizens hailing from India spanned across multiple genres and interests, featuring a diverse mix of people, events, and cultural moments.

In 2025, speaking about the entertainment space, it is no news that Aneet Padda and Ahaan Pandey’s starrer Saiyaara took Google Search by storm. Following the buzz were Final Destination, Kantara, and Squid Game. For a few weeks, the Maha Kumbh Mela was the most searched news topic, whereas in the realm of food and recipes, Thekua, Ukadiche Modak, and classic Idli secured the top rank.

Surprisingly, a 7-digit number was searched over 5201314 times on the internet regularly. Not just that, despite the growing popularity of AI tools and chatbots like ChatGPT, Google Gemini captivated the netizens and cemented its top position in the overall search spot. The search report reflects the nation’s use of AI tools like DeepSeek and Perplexity. Having said that, Gemini “Nano Banana” and X’s Grok also garnered attention. 

In the realm of sports, the IPL has claimed the top position in search trends. People searched for rising stars like Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Jemimah Rodrigues, while others looked up to the details of the Women’s World Cup.

The other domestic and global events trending in 2025 were Operation Sindoor, the Pehelgam attack, and questions like “What is a ceasefire?” gained high engagement. Netizens too wanted to know more about the air quality, earthquakes, and local festivals like Dandiya and Durga Puja. Every year, Google releases a year-long search list that includes several trending search terms.
