At the weekly press conference held in Delhi, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the issue of eliminating the transit visa requirement for Indian passport holders was agreed upon during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron in Mumbai earlier this year.

With effect from April 10, 2026, Indian citizens traveling through mainland France solely by air will no longer need a transit visa, since the French government has now operationalized this agreement, Jaiswal stated.

The choice demonstrates the continuing bond between India and France, which was elevated to the status of a special global strategic partnership during President Macron’s recent trip and promotes the easier movement of people and stronger interpersonal relationships.

On this subject, a formal news statement from the French Embassy in India stated that after President Macron’s statement, a decree amending that of 10 May 2010 regarding the documents and visas required for the entry of foreigners into French territory was adopted and published in the Official Gazette (Journal Officiel) on April 9, 2026.

Therefore, starting on April 10, 2026, Indian citizens with an ordinary passport are no longer needed to have an airport transit visa when traveling through the international zone of airports situated on French territory.
