6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits the Philippines, 69 Dead and Over 150 Injured

One of the most powerful earthquakes in recent years struck the Philippines, leaving at least 69 people dead and more than 150 injured. Rescue operations are currently underway. The tremors also brought down a historic church.
According to Reuters, the earthquake struck central Philippines on Wednesday with a magnitude of 6.9, resulting in widespread destruction. Authorities fear the death toll could rise as rescue efforts continue. The quake was triggered by a local fault line and caused severe damage across several towns and villages.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the epicenter was located about 17 kilometers northeast of Bogo, a coastal city of nearly 90,000 residents and a popular tourist destination in Cebu province.
To speed up rescue operations, local authorities have deployed heavy machinery to dig through the debris and rescue people trapped underneath. Hospitals in the area have been overwhelmed by the high number of casualties, with doctors and nurses working tirelessly to treat the injured, officials said.
