A powerful earthquake has hit Honshe Island in Japan, which is the most populous region. According to the reports, no tsunami alert has been issued till now.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) claims that the earthquake occurred at a depth of just 10 kilometers. Prior to this powerful earthquake, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 8:31 pm on Wednesday. Its epicenter was 20 kilometers below the surface of southeast Hyogo Prefecture, according to the reports.

According to media sources, neither earthquake has resulted in any major injuries or damage as yet. Nevertheless, as a precaution, officials continue to keep a careful watch on the scenario.

Japan is prone to earthquakes. Because of its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Japan straddles three tectonic plates, including the Pacific Plate beneath the Pacific Ocean and the Philippine Sea Plate.
