The 15-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is currently the talk of the town for all the good reasons. The young cricketer slammed a fiery half-century during the IPL 2026 match between the Rajasthan Royals and the Chennai Super Kings held on Monday. After turning 15 last week, the talented sensation is eligible for selection in the national team. Experts and fans have urged the BCCI to consider him. However, former Indian cricket team batter Ambati Rayudu believes that there are more deserving players.

Sooryavanshi has not only lit up the IPL but also sparked discussions and debates around his national team call-up. Rayudu emphasized the competitive landscape, noting that timing is as crucial as talent. He said, “To me, there are a few players ahead of him at the moment, because you tend to pick and build your teams ahead of the next ICC competition.”

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Will He Get Into the National Team?

It is no news that Sooryavanshi’s rise is unimaginable. With a 52 off 17 balls in a modest chase and a growing list of age-defying achievements, like a record-breaking IPL century and a standout Under-19 World Cup campaign. Mohammad Kaif and Piyush Chawla are now supporting Sooryavanshi for India’s T20 setup. However, Ambati Rayudu and R. Ashwin caution that breaking into a champion side requires the right timing and fit, not just talent.

On ESPNCricinfo,  Rayudu said, “I think definitely the T20 format [for his maiden call-up]. If he has a very good IPL and if he shows that he has the ability to keep calm under pressure… because, don’t forget, our Indian team is a world champion team. It’s won the T20 World Cup. So to replace somebody in that side is not easy. To me, there are a few players ahead of him at the moment, because you tend to pick and build your teams ahead of the next ICC competition.” In just 8 IPL games, Vaibhav has been piling records, and now all eyes are on the BCCI’s decision whether the young champion will be a part of the national team or not.
