Today marks the beginning of the much-awaited Indian Premier League 2026. The 19th edition of IPL is set to kick off with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the curtain-raiser at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Just when the excitement was at its peak, the Chennai Super Kings released an official statement stating that MS Dhoni will miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026 due to a calf injury. 

CSK will start their campaign against RR on March 30 in Guwahati. Sanju Samson will take on the wicket-keeping duties in Dhoni’s absence. Despite retiring from international cricket back in 2020, Dhoni has been an integral part of the CSK team as a player till now. Nonetheless, fans and cricket enthusiasts need to wait until Thalla gets back on the field. 

CSK IPL 2026: MS Dhoni Ruled Out for the First Two Weeks 

On March 28, 2028, the Chennai Super Kings franchise took to their official social media handles to share a big announcement, especially for Captain Cool fans. The official statement by CSK said, “MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026.

For the unversed, Ruturaj Gaikwad is the designated captain of CSK, and MS Dhoni is considered the de facto leader of the team. The injury leaves CSK without their most iconic player for what could be four matches at the start of the tournament.
