IPL 2026: Ishan Kishan to Lead Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pat Cummins’ Absence

With Abhishek Sharma as his deputy, India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was named the interim captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday for the first half of the IPL 2026 season while Pat Cummins is rehabbing from his injury.

In the absence of full-time captain Pat Cummins, Ishan Kishan has been named the interim captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team for the upcoming TATA IPL 2026, the IPL team has confirmed.

With a stress injury to his lower back, Cummins has been forced to sit out, which has also prevented him from participating in the majority of the previous Ashes series Down Under as well as the T20 World Cup. As he recovers from injury, Pat Cummins will be sidelined for a few matches. The franchise stated on social media that Abhishek Sharma would serve as vice-captain and Ishan Kishan would serve as captain until his recovery, reported by PTI.

Ishan Kishan took advantage of his opportunity and was selected for India’s XI for the T20 World Cup. Kishan was acquired by SRH for Rs. 11.25 crores in advance of the IPL 2025 auction. In his debut season with the franchise, the wicketkeeper-batter racked up 354 runs at a strike rate of 152.58, including an undefeated century in his first game for the team.
