Pranavi Urs won the first gold medal in the Asian Games on Saturday, making history as the first Indian woman golfer to do so. Her slim one stroke also helped the country win the team silver, putting an end to its greatest performance at the competition in 44 years.
The 23 year old from Mysore had a horrific triple bogey on the third hole, which had erased her three stroke overnight lead, but she still managed to send in three birdies to recover. She finished with a total of 15 under 265 over four days after a final round of even par 70, one stroke ahead of the field.
After a playoff, China’s Yin Ruoning (67) took the silver and Singapore’s Shannon Tan (68) took the bronze after both ended with overall scores of 266 in a tense finish for the top three, reports PTI.

According to reports, India’s first women’s individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games and the nation’s first golf gold medal at the event since Shiv Kapur’s men’s individual victory in 2002.
