BJP to Contest BMC Polls Solo in Some Mumbai Metropolitan Region Corporations

Maharashtra’s Mahayuti alliance partners will contest together in at least four of the nine municipal corporations in the MMR under a seat-sharing agreement. However, for the remaining five corporations, BJP and its ally, Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, will contest separately.
BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena are expected to contest together in the BMC elections from Panvel, Vasai-Virar, and Kalyan-Dombivli corporations. In contrast, for corporations such as Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mira-Bhayander, the two parties will not field joint candidates and will go solo.
The BMC elections are scheduled for January next year. Earlier, the three partners had announced plans to contest together as an alliance across all 29 municipalities.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said during an interaction with reporters on Wednesday:
“In local bodies where the two ruling partners are in the number one and two positions, we would like to go solo, as it will work in our favour. Fighting separately will help us win more seats and then form a post-poll alliance. It will also ensure that there is no space left for the opposition.”
