BJP Aims to Bring Gen Z Into Municipal Policymaking

If you are wondering what the BJP is doing for first-time voters, here is the wooing technique that the ruling civic body in Mumbai has promised to implement.

The Mumbai BJP has launched an internship programme aimed at bringing Gen Z directly into the city’s governance framework. Announced earlier this week by Mumbai BJP president Ameet Satam at the YB Chavan auditorium, the initiative is designed to give students and young professionals a front-row seat to policymaking and urban planning, and a voice in shaping the future of the city if the Mahayuti alliance wins the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Under the programme, students and young professionals will have the opportunity to observe and contribute to governance processes, particularly in urban planning and civic administration. Party officials describe it as positioning the youth as a consultative “third eye” in city governance,’ providing insights, analyzing civic issues, and offering recommendations on development projects.

While detailed information on selection criteria and programme structure is limited, the BJP has emphasized that participation will offer a hands-on experience of civic administration, giving young voters an opportunity to understand how policy decisions are made.

As the BMC elections approach, this internship programme highlights the BJP’s strategic focus on youth engagement, aiming to connect with first-time voters while projecting an image of inclusive governance.
