Mumbai: On Sunday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray condemned and slammed the MMRDA after a drone was spotted hovering over ‘Matoshree’, the Mumbai bungalow of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He described the incident as “shameful” and an example of a “surveillance state.”

Taking to his official social media handle on X, Thackeray said, “The drone surveillance of our house today is a shameful incident, yet doesn’t shock us, with the kind of surveillance state that we live in. The drone hovered at our window level till we started video recording it, and then the drone went erratically up and away when the drone operator realized we were recording it.”

Hitting out at the MMRDA, Thackeray said, “Even if the @MMRDAOfficial claims it was doing a survey of BKC, by not informing people, how many homes have they looked into? When the EC refuses footage of public voting booths to protect women from privacy concerns, here the drone operator is peeping into our window, and later MMRDA says it was for the whole of BKC.”

He also said, “No other government agency, globally, would be able to justify such police state actions under the name of “survey”.

On the same day, earlier, Aaditya raised concerns about privacy and security on his social media platform X and also questioned the intentions behind the activity. Slamming the MMRDA, he said, “The MMRDA should rather get on the ground and focus on the sham of its work, like the MTHL (Atal Setu), which is an example of its corruption.”

UBT Leader Shares Drone Footage

UBT leader Ambadas Danve, on X, shared the footage of the drone that was spotted near Matoshree and said, “Mumbai is included in the red zone under the drone policy. Yet, at present, such drones are openly being spotted outside the ‘Matoshree’ residence. The appearance of such drones in the vicinity of ‘Matoshree’, which is a high-security zone. Is someone surveilling Matoshree?”
