Food storage is really crucial, but some foods may mold if kept together. In this article we are going to learn about the concern and why we can’t keep the food combination for storage. There is a scientific reason behind it.

Two main factors make it difficult to keep two foods together. According to certain reports, there are hazards of foodborne illness from cross-contamination, as well as undesirable alterations in flavor or texture. Storing certain foods together, especially raw and cooked foods, presents a serious health risk due to cross-contamination, which is the transmission of dangerous bacteria.

Apples and Carrots

Ethylene gas is emitted by apples, which hastens ripening and spoilage in ethylene-sensitive foods like carrots.

Potatoes and Onions

Potatoes release moisture and gases that cause onions to sprout and decay more quickly. Potatoes, however, may become mushy and soft due to onions. Make sure to keep the foods apart from one another in a cool, dry area to prevent this dual damage.

Milk and Citrus Fruits

Because the acid in citrus fruits can curdle the milk, causing digestive pain, bloating or an upset stomach, you should typically avoid mixing milk with citrus fruits, according to the reports.

Bread and Cheese

Cheese can absorb the moisture from bread, causing it to become mushy and moldy, while the cheese can acquire the bread’s flavors.

Raw Meat or Fish and Ready-to-eat Foods

To avoid drips from contaminating dairy, produce and ready-to-eat foods, keep raw proteins in sealed containers on the lowest shelf.

Bananas and Avocados

Both have high ethylene production, which accelerates the overripening of surrounding fruits.
