On January 20, 2026, Valentino Garavani Foundation took to Instagram to announce the sad demise of the legendary Italian fashion designer. On Tuesday morning, at the age of 93, Garavani passed away at his home in Rome. The top designer spent over half a century styling the world’s great beauties, from Hollywood stars to royal members.

Renowned as Valentino, the designer’s creations were worn by A-listers and international elite, including Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn, Nancy Reagan, Sharon Stone, Julia Roberts, and Gwyneth Paltrow. What created a frenzy was his popular “Valentino red” gown. Unfortunately, the fashion aficionado left for heavenly abode, leaving fans and stars mourning in grief.

Italian Designer Valentino Garavani Dies at 93

Valentino Garavani’s funeral is scheduled for Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, located at Piazza della Repubblica 8 in Rome. He will be lain in state near the Spanish Steps of Rome on Wednesday and Thursday in Piazza Mignanelli 23 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, an act reserved only for figures of massive national significance.

Born in 1932 in Voghera, a town near Milan, he was named after the Italian actor Rudolph Valentino by his mother. Fashion’s Last Emperor, Valentino Garavani, styled the world’s most famous women and became the architect of their most legendary moments. Jackie Kennedy’s wedding dress, made of ivory lace, and the vintage velvet worn by Julia Roberts during her Oscar win, highlight the glamour and timeless Italian elegance that a Valentino gown represents. The designer retired in 2007, having solidified his top position in the fashion industry for over 45 years. Throughout the decades, the red carpet wasn’t just a walkway; it was Valentino’s stage.
