Health Alert: Endocrinologist Reveals 3 Unhealthy Foods that Spike Blood Sugar Level High
Any health-conscious individual will never think of eating more or more sugar. We avoid it as much as possible to achieve a better healthy life. But there are some foods that could increase the high sugar level. It's not dessert or chocolate cake, but...
We avoid eating food with a high glycemic index and carbohydrates, as we fear eating it will trigger blood sugar to rise. Therefore, we stop eating chocolate cake, pasta, pizza, coke, desserts, potato, rice, beetroot etc. We believe this could help us. But this is not the end. Recently, an endocrinologist revealed three unhealthy foods that could lead to higher blood sugar. She has shared a video on Instagram guiding on which foods to avoid and take care of.
Many health experts say that not only cutting off sugar works, it will help when we have a balanced diet and 10,000 steps walking or exercise. To keep ourselves hydrated is also a key.
New Jersey-based endocrinologist, Dr. Alessia Roehnelt has shared three popular but unhealthy dinner dishes that raise blood sugar faster than chocolate cake. It’s not the dessert that we eat post-dinner treat, but something else. Dr. Roehnelt listed the foods as follows:
Instant White Rice (85-90 Glycemic Index): Dr. Roehnelt explains that, “This type of rice has been precooked and dried, which breaks down the starch structure. Unfortunately, your body absorbs it as fast as glucose. Instead of this, try something like jasmine rice, which has a more resistant starch, or something like quinoa, which adds a little bit of protein”, she said.
Mashed Potatoes (80-90 Glycemic Index): We do like this food, but it can raise your blood sugar levels. So, avoiding french-fries and wedges could be a good decision. Dr. Roehnelt said, “It forms a resistant starch less likely than sugar. Cooking and mashing these increases the surface area and scratch gelatinization, which speeds up digestion.”
White Bread (70-75 Glycemic Index): Many of us eat white bread for breakfast or as evening snacks. But as Dr. Roehnelt said, ”This type of refined flour is broken down very quickly into glucose”, it is not good for health.
