Holy basil, often called “The Queen of Herbs,” is grown annually in most of the United States. The best seasons to grow Basil are spring and summer, as it is sensitive to cold. Whether growing holy basil for medicinal, culinary, spiritual, or aesthetic purposes, you need to take due care of it. Here’s how you can allow your basil plant to grow in abundance.

5 Tips to Nurture the Holy Basil Plant Better

  1. Moist Soil

Ensure that the soil remains moist, but not drenched or soggy. It is the key to growing healthy and abundant holy basil. The ideal soil type is light and airy, but rich at the same time.

  1. Offer Plenty of Sunlight

Give your holy basil plant plenty of sunlight. Approximately 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight is ideal for the plant to ensure large, healthy leaves.

  1. Water It on a Timely Basis

When the top inch of soil feels dry, consider watering it. The best time to water is early in the morning or late in the evening. During the summer, water it after every 2 to 3 days, while in cooler months, once a week may suffice.

  1. Prefer High-grade Manure

The best way to provide nutrients to your plant is to use high-quality soil with compost or well-aged manure. Please note that fertilizing the herb is not recommended, as foliage may grow quickly.

  1. Keep Pests Away

Keep an eye on the undersides of the leaves. Check for any pests, such as aphids or whiteflies. You can use neem oil spray or mild soap water to brush away pests.

Once you crack the code on how to take care of growing holy basil, you shall watch it proliferate with ease.
