With wedding expenses rising year after year, the societal trend of overspending on big celebrations has gone from a luxury to a heavy financial burden for middle-class families. Currently, a woman revealed that her parents spent Rs. 17 lakh on her wedding and she discovered that they didn’t have enough retirement savings. The woman has shared a post on social media where she also asks for advice.

Inflation is hitting every sector. In the current era, we need to have a high and stable income with sufficient liquidity and also a safety net for future endeavours and security. Financial management is the most important need nowadays. The topic sparked debate after the post went viral.

After finding out that her parents had very little money set aside for retirement, a 26 year old lady sought financial advice. She is concerned about how they will handle other costs and medical expenses as they get older, even though they own a property and have approximately Rs. 30 lakh worth of gold.

At her first job, she makes Rs. 20,000 per month and is concerned that if something happens, she won’t be able to help. She stated that her father spent the majority of his leftover money on her wedding and lent Rs. 10 lakh to her uncle, who was experiencing financial difficulties. Her father had never spoken to her nor her mother about the situation, so she had no idea how they were doing.

Even though she is unsure of the precise figure, her father is 63 years old and reportedly makes between Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 50,000 per month. She has also purchased health insurance for her parents worth Rs. 10 lakh.
