Numerous changes that may impact your household costs, taxes, savings and borrowings are expected in October 2026. Here are the most significant monetary changes to look out for in October 2026:

1) The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the RBI is scheduled to convene from October 5 to October 7, 2026. The central bank will either keep the repo rate unchanged or alter it depending on the policy decision reached at the conclusion of the meeting.

2) For the assessment year 2026-27, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has prolonged the deadlines for taxpayers who are subject to tax audi rules. The deadline for submitting the tax audit report has been pushed back from September 30 to October 21, 2026. For taxpayers subject to tax audit regulations, the income tax return deadline has been extended from October 31 to November 21, 2026. The extension allows tax professionals and taxpayers more time to finish the audit and return filling procedure for FY 2025-26.

3) Domestic LPG users will be required to perform biometric Aadhaar authentication in order to reserve refills at the set retail selling price (RSP) with the relevant subsidy beginning on October 1.

4) SBI is changing the number of free monthly transactions that salary package account holders can make using their SBI debit cards at Automated Deposits cum Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs) and ATMs of other banks.

5) The UPI Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) will have a new framework that will apply to particular merchant transactions that are more than Rs. 2,000.

6) As of October 1, 2026, the updated regulations will be applicable. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has updated the fees that Points of Presence (PoPs) may charge users under the NPS Lite and National Pension System (NPS). The adjusted fees will be implemented on October 1, 2026.
