On November 10, 2025, around 6.52 pm, the Delhi Fire Services received a call regarding the explosion near the Lal Qila Metro Station gate number one. With over 24 people sustaining injuries and the demise of 10-plus citizens, the cause is yet to be ascertained. The blast took place in a Hyundai i20 car, leaving wrecked vehicles scattered in the busy area of the capital.
Top officials from the Delhi Police Special Cell, Anti-Terror Squad, National Investigation Agency, and National Security Guard arrived at the explosion site. Meanwhile, raids were being conducted in several areas of the national capital. Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha spoke to the reporters, saying, “The blast took place in a slow-moving vehicle that came to a halt at the Red Fort traffic signal. There were occupants in the car. The blast damaged cars nearby.” The Delhi Lal Kila blast triggered a high alert in Delhi and neighbouring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, with security tightened at sensitive points.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, twenty fire engines were rushed to the spot, with police cordoning off the area. Home Minister Amit Shah reached the site near Gate No. 1 of Delhi Metro’s Red Fort station and stated that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that no possibility is being ruled out.

BJP chief and Union Minister JP Nadda posted on X, “Anguished by the loss of lives in the tragic car blast in New Delhi. My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Authorities are ensuring that all necessary medical assistance reaches the injured.”
Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, tweeted, “Extremely distressing to hear about the news of a car explosion near Red Fort Metro Station, Delhi. Initial reports suggest that several precious lives have been lost in this incident. In this moment of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we pray for the swift recovery of the injured. The government must ensure a prompt and thorough investigation into this blast, which took place in a high-security and often crowded place, so that those responsible for this lapse and incident are held accountable.”
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta also expressed deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. She will be reaching the LNJP hospital shortly to meet the victims.
More Details of the Delhi Red Fort Car Blast
The car involved in the blast had a Haryana registration number. The identity of the person in whose name the vehicle is registered has been established, and the Special Cell team has left for Haryana.
The blast reportedly came a few hours after Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad in Haryana. The materials, which included 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, a commonly used fertiliser that can be turned into a deadly bomb, were seized based on intel from the arrested J&K-based doctor, Adil Rather.
