A powerful blast occurred in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station, close to the historic Red Fort. The explosion led to a fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles. Seven fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the location to control the blaze, officials said.

Initial reports confirmed that at least one person had died in the explosion. The area was quickly cordoned off, and rescue operations began as authorities assessed the situation.

A local shopkeeper near the site described the explosion as deafening.

“I fell three times due to the explosion. It felt as if we were all going to die. I’ve never heard such a loud sound in my life,” he told ANI news agency.

The Delhi Fire Department confirmed receiving a call about an explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station. Officials said that three to four vehicles caught fire after the blast. Seven fire tenders were deployed, and a team from the Delhi Police Special Cell reached the site to investigate.

According to ANI, 15 people were taken to Lok Nayak Hospital following the explosion. The hospital later confirmed that eight had succumbed to their injuries, three were in critical condition, and one was stable.

Eyewitnesses described the horrific aftermath of the blast.

“When we came near, we saw body parts spread on the road. No one could figure out what happened,” said one local, adding that several cars were severely damaged in the explosion.

DIG CRPF Kishor Prasad, who reached the explosion site, said it was “too early to say anything” regarding the cause. “I’m just going to the site to assess the situation,” he told reporters.

Another eyewitness described the horrific sight at the scene:

“When we saw someone’s hand on the road, we were absolutely shocked. I can’t explain it in words,” the local told ANI.

The area around Red Fort remains cordoned off as forensic teams and bomb disposal squads continue their investigation. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the explosion was due to a bomb or an accidental detonation.
