One of the biggest greenfield infrastructure projects in India, the 594 km Ganga Expressway, was officially opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The expressway is connecting Meerut with Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh as per the reports.

By improving access, shortening distances and better integrating the region with the state’s growth corridors, the expressway is anticipated to unleash this latent potential, according to a statement.

The initiative will shorten the travel time from roughly 11 hours to about 6 hours and provide new economic prospects throughout the state. To offer cutting-edge warnings and improve road safety, the expressway has installed AI-powered camera systems, reported by ANI.

The six lane expressway, which can be expanded to eight lanes, will improve access to markets, healthcare, education and tourism centers throughout the 12 districts it crosses. According to the press release, this translates to faster access to vital services for families and faster connections to markets for businesses.

Uttar Pradesh government is building 11 industrial corridors throughout the 12 districts of Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. The press release said that the expressway would link seven important tourist sites, including Garhmukteshwar, Kalkidham, Belhadevi, Chandrika (Shakti Peeth) and Triveni Sangam, thereby enhancing the area’s tourism economy.
