Now, we casually use the online food delivery apps, which give us the best service, no doubt, but now the Central Government has asked the Swiggy, Zepto, Zomato, Blinkit apps to drop the time limit of the 10 minute delivery service. Let’s understand what it means to the customers and the app services.
Several media sources claimed on Tuesday that major quick commerce companies had given up on the 10 minute delivery promise after Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya intervened due to worries about the security of delivery partners. Following discussions, the Union Labour Minister has requested that these platforms stop advertising the 10 minute deliveries, citing the need to protect the rights of gig workers and improve working conditions and safety.
Following a strike by gig workers in December for higher compensation and better working conditions, the Labour Ministry issued the directive. To jointly advocate for the rights, welfare and dignity of gig and platform workers throughout India, the Gig and Platform Service Workers Union initiated a strike on December 31, according to media reports.
ANI reports that Blinkit has already followed the order and taken the 10 minute delivery pledge off of its branding. In the days ahead, other aggregators are anticipated to follow suit. The action is intended to enhance gig workers’ safety, security and working conditions.
The Code on Social Security, 2020, which went into effect on November 21, 2025, defines gig workers and platform workers for the first time, as well as includes clauses pertaining to them, ANI further adds.
