The list of most powerful passports in the world is out. According to the recent report, Henley Passport Index 2026, India has strengthened its position.

The Henley Passport Index 2026, which is headquartered in London, assesses passports based on visa-free access to locations and has named Singapore as having the world’s most powerful passport. Singapore has visa-free entry to 192 countries. Japan and South Korea, which are tied for second place and have visa-free travel to 188 nations in 2026, come next to Singapore in terms of increasing Asia’s hegemony.

The Henley Passport Index gave the Indian passport a fair ranking in the 2000s, but its rating has been falling ever since. It climbed five spots from the previous year to place 80th in the world in 2026. This five rank increase, which permits visa-free entry to 55 nations, suggests a gradual improvement in the strength of Indian passports after many years of stagnation in the mid to low 80s.

With visa-free entry to 186 locations, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Luxembourg are tied for third place. The index, which assesses 199 passports across 227 locations, uses unique data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to calculate the number of nations a passport holder may visit without a prior visa.

Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Norway are tied for fourth place, with each nation permitting travel to 185 different nations. With access to 184 nations, the top five are completed by Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the UAE.
