Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver in CWG Javelin Throw with a Season Best Throw of 85.83m

Here on Friday, Indian javelin throw superstar Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal and Yashvir Singh shocked everyone with his final throw to earn a bronze in the Commonwealth Games.

In his second attempt, the 28 year old Tokyo Olympics winner threw a season best 85.83m, which was sufficient for a second place finish. The 85.69m he finished fourth in at the Doha Diamond League on June 19, his lone other competition this season, was only somewhat surpassed by his effort on Friday.

In his first appearance at the Games, 24 year old Yashvir astounded everyone with a personal best 85.41m throw in his sixth and final attempt, as Indians placed second and third on the podium. He had previously set his personal best of 83.72m. He was in seventh place after the penultimate round with his third attempt, measuring 81.33m before making a memorable 85.41m throw to join Chopra on the podium.

Chopra has always pursued gold and his return to competition was marked by another significant international podium finish, continuing on a positive note.

“It brings back memories of the Asian Games, where Saurav and I both won medals. I’m really happy that Yashvir achieved a personal best at such a crucial moment. It feels great to be on the podium together. It’s always a joy to hear the national anthem play. That said, I also achieved a season-best and my comeback is progressing well. There are more competitions ahead, so I’m very happy,” Chopra told the press.
