Marco Rubio Visits India: Conclude Kolkata Visit, Leaves for Delhi to Meet PM Modi

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, is now in India. After finishing his visit to Kolkata, he will now meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister S. Jaishankar.

On Saturday, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, landed in India. He and his wife, Jeanette D. Rubio, left Kolkata for Delhi, where they met the Missionaries of Charity. The Mother House is where Marco Rubio spent some of his time. The visit was described as very personal and reflective by Sister Concettina, the Secretary General of the Missionaries of Charity. Sergio Gor, the US ambassador to India, is also traveling with Secretary Rubio.

After arriving in Delhi, Marco Rubio will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar. Mr. Rubio’s itinerary for India, which includes Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi and is planned for May 23-26, is seen as significant for his upcoming energy discussions with India and his meeting with ministers from the Quad nations, according to the reports.

US Ambassador Sergio Gor stated that Rubio will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today. In addition to attending a meeting of the Quad foreign ministers in Delhi on Tuesday, the leading US diplomat will meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday.

As per the reports, in addition to the current tensions between the US and India over the US imposing tariffs, the two sides are anticipated to discuss the economic effects of the US-Iran war, including its impact on energy supplies.
